The advantages of sensor taps

Monday, June 15, 2020

The need for contactless technology and utilities has risen in order to maintain hygiene, which is paramount during this pandemic. This is especially important in bathrooms, both public and private, which is why people are turning to sensor taps.

Research shows that faucets are the second-most bacteria-ridden spots in the majority of bathrooms, second to the toilet bowl. This is because faucets are used a frequent number of times throughout the day to rinse and clean our hands. The recurrent contact of dirty hands with the tap leaves them prone to the buildup of germs and bacteria. This only increases further if multiple people are using the same tap.

While you can work at sanitizing bathrooms regularly, sensor technology and automatic faucets can help reduce the time and effort a manual deep cleaning takes, as well as the intervals between each one. Sensor taps also provide multiple other benefits that can make life easier.

A list of benefits of sensor faucets

Hygiene and sanitation

With regular taps, the faucet or handle has to be touched to be operated. This is usually done with dirty hands, which means that you come into contact with the same germs immediately after washing them off. These germs stay on the handle, and more germs are added with every use and touch.

With automatic faucets, sensors are built into the handle, which enables it to detect motion. Thus, when an object like a hand appears in front of it, it automates the flow of water instantly. This eliminates the need to touch the handle at all and prevents repeated cross-contamination between each use. The levels of hygiene are much higher when sensor taps are maintained consistently.

Low-maintenance

Regular taps are subject to wear and tear with daily use over time. Since there is a lever or handle that needs to be turned or swivelled, the apparatus inside sees regular friction. Additionally, we turn off faucets with wet hands, causing a little bit of water to trickle into the nooks of the handles. This can cause corrosion and damage, which can create problems with functionality. It takes regular maintenance to ensure smooth mechanisms, but most of us wait till we have to fix a leaking tap or replace the different parts to realize this.

On the other hand, a sensor faucet does not have handles that need to be manoeuvered. Because of this sleek and simple design, automatic faucets don’t require the same amount of maintenance. There is also infrequent contact with wet hands or water, so it is easier to keep them clean. Sensor taps also have an LED-light that warns the user that the battery needs to be changed as well. This, too, makes them easier to maintain since you can replace them beforehand and never have to worry that the tap will stop working all of a sudden.

Water-conserving

When we use regular faucets, sometimes we tend to turn the handle too much or too little. This varied pattern causes more flow of water than what is actually required. A simple search online will tell you that a running tap uses an average of about 5 litres every minute. This waste of water comes at a heavy cost for the environment, and can also weigh on your pockets.

In comparison, sensor taps save a lot more water. With an aerator fixed in the spout, the water that is dispersed from the tap is regulated. Each time it turns on, it releases a uniform stream at a regular flow. Moreover, sensor taps also offer the least levels of water consumption since they switch off automatically, like when you are soaping and foaming your hands. All this can cut down water wastage by up to 70%.

Energy efficient

Since regular taps do not require electricity to function, not many people consider the amount of energy that is wasted while using them. In reality, managing the temperature of the water, based on the valve that has been opened, uses energy. This is especially true during the winter months when people open the hot water valve more frequently. Similarly, in extremely tropical climates, the water tends to heat up on its own which leads people to turn on a motor outside for cooler water.

This is not the case with a sensor faucet. These dispel water at a consistently maintained temperature year-round, which is comfortable no matter the climate. This technology allows for increased energy-efficiency at home. While sensor taps do use electricity or batteries to function, this is extremely minimal compared to the energy required to regulate the temperature of the water.

Sensor faucets are advantageous in a number of other ways as well. They make handwashing simple and easy for all, including elderly people who may have limited dexterity, and small children who are unable to reach the faucet’s handles with ease.

With better hygiene and ease of convenience, automatic faucets are becoming increasingly popular and sought after, for both private and public use. Check out Jaquar’ssensor tapsand premium line of bathroom accessories to equip your bathroom with the best fittings.
